The Green Mountain Boys
Preceding sometime around 1775, a group of men led by Ethan Allen trailed up the British fort, Fort Ticonderoga (a fort captured from the French) and surprised the British by overthrowing it. Fort Ticonderoga was a vital location because it was chained between Lake Champlain and a blockroad to Quebec. Once Ethan Allen and his co-companion Arnold seized Ticonderoga, they could open a route near the Lake Champlain river and took possession of all cannons and weapons that the British hid them for safekeeping. These weapons George Washington could now possess advantaged the Americans once more. Even in the battles of Bunker Hill and Breed's Hill, where the Americans won 2:1 against the British.
